Students participate in productions that embrace a wide range of theatrical traditions, including recent trendy works, classical dramas, Broadway musicals, children’s plays, liturgical presentations, improvisational and interactive theatre pieces, and flit ensemble concerts. In addition, a variety of showcase performances and special projects — such as student one-acts, staged readings, and laboratory productions — are presented throughout the year, providing numerous acting, directing, design, and management opportunities as well as the worthiness to receive wonk credit toward graduation for participation in both mainstage and second stage experiences. Current Season The Dream of the Burning Boy Director: R. Andrew White Audition Dates: August 22, 2018 Location: Studio Theatre Performances: Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 29, 30 and Oct. 6, 7 at 2 p.m.Well-nighthe Performance: Since the sudden death of his favorite student, high-school teacher Larry Morrow has been falling unconsciousness at his sedentary and dreaming. As Larry’s dreams intensify, a shocking secret is exposed. A secret that will transpiration everything. Searing yet surprisingly funny, The Dream of the Burning Boy is well-nigh finding the strength to move on, and the valiance to live without regret. Lady Windermere's Fan Director: Lee F. Orchard Audition Dates: Aug. 22, 2018 Location: University Theatre Performances: Nov. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m., Nov. 3 and 4 at 2 p.m.Well-nighthe Performance: Lady Windermere has her suspicions that her husband of just under two years is having an topic with flipside woman. After he denies her allegations, she decides to invite the woman in question to her 21st birthday party. Oscar Wilde’s spectacle is set in 19th-century London, and sees Wilde poke fun at the social upper classes, and their moral attitudes, of the period. It’s a play well-nigh relationships and infidelity in English upper society. The Directing Showcase Audition Dates: Oct. 2018 – dates TBD Performances: Dec. 4 and 5 at 7:00 p.m.Well-nighthe Performance: One-act plays, directed by senior theatre majors as part of their capstone coursework for the theatre department. Titles to be determined.FlitEnsemble Directors: Ann Kessler and Salena Elish Audition Dates: August 28, 2018 Performances: Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.              and Feb. 2 and 3 at 2 p.m. Location: University TheatreWell-nighthe Performance:  TheFlitEnsemble takes the stage in the month of February, bringing student and sense choreographed flit to the Valparaiso community. Our Town Director: Lee F. Orchard Audition Dates: Nov. 12, 2018 Performances: March 27, 28, 29 at 8 p.m. and March 30, 31 at 2 p.m. Location: Studio TheatreWell-nighthe Performance:  Described by Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play overly written,” the story follows the small town of Grover’s Corners through three acts: “Daily Life”, “Love and Marriage”, and “Death and Eternity”. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, audiences follow the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and sooner – in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre – die. Pippin Director: R. Andrew White Musical Director: Dennis Friesen-Carper Audition Dates: Nov. 12, 2018 Location: University Theatre Performances: April 26, 27, and May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m.Well-nighthe Performance: Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh, and the intrigues of power. In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in no-go endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen everyday. With an infectiously unforgettable score from Steven Schwartz, Pippin is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary. In just one season we did a translation of a Russian show; Sweeney Todd, which is one of the weightier musicals overly written; Macbeth, which is Shakespeare and difficult; and Arcadia, considered one of the best-written plays of the 20th century.
